“Publication of a Scientific Research on the Use of Neural Networks in Underwater Search and Rescue Operations”
As part of his continuous research efforts in the field of artificial intelligence and modern technologies, Lecturer Dr. Ali Fadhel Rasheed, a faculty member at the College of Education, published a scientific research paper entitled:
“Enhancing Underwater Search and Rescue Operations: A CNN Approach for Human, Fish, and Plant Classification”
in
The Iraqi Journal of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (IJEEE),
which is indexed in the international Scopus database (Q3).
The research explored the use of artificial intelligence techniques, particularly Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), to improve underwater search and rescue operations through the accurate classification of images of humans, fish, and plants. The study utilized the OpenCV library for image preprocessing, along with Keras and TensorFlow libraries to develop an intelligent model capable of efficient recognition and classification.
The results demonstrated that the CNN model achieved a remarkable classification accuracy of 99.6%, outperforming many modern machine learning approaches. This highlights the potential of using such technologies to accurately and rapidly locate submerged individuals, which is crucial for timely rescue missions.
This scientific achievement reflects the advanced research capabilities of the College of Education’s academic staff and their commitment to keeping pace with global scientific developments in the fields of artificial intelligence and modern technologies.
