In a distinguished scientific achievement reflecting the advanced level of scientific research at the University of Telafer, a joint research team led by Dr. Mohammed Mowafaq Sehri, Head of the Qualification and Employment Division at the university presidency, successfully registered three new bacterial strains in the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) global database, representing a valuable addition to scientific knowledge in the field of microbiology.

The joint research team included, alongside Dr. Mohammed Mowafaq Sehri from the university, Assistant Professor Dr. Bakhshan Abdullah Hassan from the College of Science at University of Salahuddin, and Assistant Lecturer Jalal Mohammed Zuhdi Jalal from Mosul Medical Institute, Department of Medical Laboratories at Northern Technical University, embodying the spirit of fruitful scientific cooperation between Iraqi universities.

These three bacterial strains were officially registered in the accredited global database under the names MOPKJA1, MOPKJA2, and MOPKJA3, where they were assigned unique accession codes SUB15291032 seq17 PV580080, SUB15291032 seq22 PV580081, and SUB15291032 seq25 PV580082 respectively, ensuring international documentation of this important scientific discovery.

The study included multidrug-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii complex bacteria isolated from various clinical samples, which are considered bacteria of great medical importance due to their resistance to multiple antibiotics and their impact on patient health in hospital environments. The research team used advanced molecular diagnostic techniques employing the diagnostic gene 16S rRNA to identify bacterial genera with high accuracy and confirm their genetic identity.

This achievement comes within the University of Telafer’s continuous efforts to develop scientific research and enhance its position in the international academic community, particularly in the fields of microbiology and biotechnology, confirming the university’s ability to contribute effectively to enriching global scientific knowledge through original and innovative research.
