“Continuing Education Center at University of Telafer Organizes Specialized Course on Climate Change and Desertification in Iraq: Dimensions, Implications and Confrontation Strategies”

Within the framework of growing interest in environmental and climate issues and their impact on Iraq, and according to the directives of the University President regarding attention to environmental topics and contemporary climate challenges, the Continuing Education Center at the University of Telafer organized a specialized training course titled “Climate Change and Desertification in Iraq: Dimensions, Implications and Confrontation Strategies,” which launched on Sunday, August 3, 2025, aiming to enhance environmental awareness and introduce the climate challenges facing Iraq and ways to confront them through integrated scientific strategies.

The course modules were presented by Assistant Lecturer Zakaria Zaynal Mohsen, Director of the Media and Government Communication Department at the university, Assistant Lecturer Musa Sarhan Musa, Head of the Training Division at the center, and Assistant Lecturer Hassan Jamal Abdullah from the College of Environmental Sciences at the University of Mosul, who contributed their academic and research expertise in providing comprehensive scientific content on this vital environmental issue.

The course addressed important topics including the impacts of climate change on water resources and agriculture in Iraq, the phenomenon of desertification and its causes and implications for the local environment, in addition to reviewing practical solutions and environmental policies required to reduce the escalation of these environmental problems and protect ecological systems in the region.

This course comes within the framework of the University of Telafer’s commitment to spreading environmental awareness and enhancing understanding of contemporary climate challenges, and contributing to preparing qualified cadres capable of dealing with urgent environmental issues, reflecting the university’s commitment to its community role in environmental awareness and supporting sustainable development efforts in the region.
