“University of Telafer Participates in Workshop on Climate Change and the Local Adaptation Plan for Nineveh Province”
As part of its academic and societal commitment to supporting sustainable development and addressing environmental challenges. University of Telafer took part in a workshop on climate change and the Local Adaptation Plan (LAP) for Nineveh Province. The event was held on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at the Directorate of Municipalities of Nineveh. It was sponsored by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), in partnership with the World Food Programme (WFP) and in cooperation with the Nineveh Environment Directorate.
The university was represented by Dr. Sinan Issam Al-Din Salah, Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs at the College of Agriculture. The workshop also witnessed broad official attendance, including the Deputy Governor of Nineveh, the Director of Municipalities, as well as representatives from governmental departments and both international and local organizations concerned with environmental and displacement issues.
The workshop addressed critical themes related to the current state of climate change in the province, with a special focus on incorporating the “Human Mobility Chapter” into the Local Adaptation Plan. It also explored the complex link between climate change, migration, and internal displacement. In addition, participants discussed the main environmental and social challenges posed by climate phenomena and examined potential opportunities for implementing practical and sustainable solutions through support from central and local governments and engagement with the international community.

University of Telafer reaffirms its commitment to supporting initiatives that empower communities affected by climate change and to strengthening the role of academic institutions in developing scientific visions and practical solutions that serve the goals of sustainable development and enhance Iraq’s responsiveness to current environmental challenges.
