*”President of University of Telafer Leads Awareness Symposium on the Dangers of Psychotropic Substances with Participation of Security Specialists”*

Within the framework of national efforts to combat the epidemic of drugs and psychotropic substances, and to consolidate the role of academic institutions in fortifying society, the University of Telafer, in cooperation with the Directorate of Drug and Psychotropic Substances Affairs, organized a specialized scientific symposium on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at the university campus.

The symposium was opened by the President of the University of Telafer, Professor Dr. Abdul Aziz Ahmed Aziz, with a valuable lecture addressing the health, psychological, and social dimensions of psychotropic substance addiction, reviewing scientific studies documenting their dangers and negative effects on individuals and society, and emphasizing the responsibility of educational institutions in prevention and awareness.

Mr. Falah Mahdi Salih, Head of the Nineveh Drug Control Media Division, presented a lecture covering the legal and awareness aspects of combating psychotropic substances, reviewing recent statistics and prevention methods, with a focus on society’s role in addressing this phenomenon.

The symposium witnessed quality attendance from university personnel and students, in addition to the representative of the Telafer Drug Control Office, Captain Azhar Fadhil Abbas, and the liaison member of the West Nineveh Security Directorate, who enriched the discussions with practical interventions from field experience.

This event emphasized the importance of integration between academic and security institutions in combating drugs and psychotropic substances, and the necessity of adopting sustainable awareness strategies targeting youth in particular, as they are the group most targeted by dealers and promoters of these harmful substances.

This symposium embodies the University of Telafer’s commitment to its societal role in addressing contemporary challenges and its keenness to fortify its students, personnel, and members of the local community against this dangerous epidemic.
