“University of Telafer Hosts Ministerial Committee to Evaluate the Establishment of an English Language Department in the College of Basic Education”

As part of its strategic vision for academic development and enriching the educational landscape, the University of Telafer welcomed the ministerial committee responsible for approving new university divisions (colleges, departments, and branches) for the 2025–2026 academic year. The reception took place on Monday, May 26, 2025, under the auspices of Professor Dr. Abdulaziz Ahmed Aziz, President of the University of Telafer.

This evaluative visit aligns with the committee’s mandate to conduct field inspections at Iraqi universities to verify their compliance with the material and human resource requirements necessary for establishing new academic units. These requirements are defined by the regulations issued by the Department of Studies, Planning, and Follow-Up at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

The visit focused specifically on assessing the feasibility of creating an English Language Department within the College of Basic Education. The committee conducted a detailed tour of the university’s facilities to review the available infrastructure, educational resources, and the qualifications of the academic staff proposed to teach the English specialization.

During the reception, the University President emphasized the institution’s readiness to launch this important department. He presented the existing capabilities and outlined the plans to secure all academic and administrative prerequisites, highlighting the urgent need for this specialty in the region to meet local labor market demands.

The ministerial committee expressed its admiration for the level of preparation and arrangements demonstrated by the university administration. It confirmed that its final report will provide a comprehensive evaluation of all aspects related to the proposal and will be submitted to the relevant authorities within the ministry for a final decision.
